New Delhi hopes that all existing agreements reached between India and Bangladesh on the border based on mutual consent will be respected. Indian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said this in a regular briefing on Friday.

The Indian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson highlighted the country’s position ahead of the Director General-level conference of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF). The 55th BGB-BSF Director General-level conference will be held in New Delhi from February 17 to 20.

Referring to the four agreements with India, Bangladesh Home Affairs Advisor Lt. Gen. (retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said on Wednesday that there were major problems in the agreement signed in 2010. The agreement is somewhat uneven.

When drawn to the Bangladesh Home Affairs Advisor’s statement, Randhir Jaiswal told reporters that it has been proposed to discuss all border-related issues at the Director General-level conference of the border security forces of the two countries.

“We hope that all agreements reached on the basis of mutual consent will be respected,” said the Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson. These agreements are based on the structural relationship between India and Bangladesh and in fact the border security forces of the two countries.

Randhir Jaiswal further said that these agreements have provided opportunities for security, trade and infrastructure development on the border of India and Bangladesh for both the countries. Therefore, we hope that all agreements will be respected.
