
IS claimed responsibility for attack on Shia mosque in Oman

IS militants have claimed responsibility for the gun attack on the premises of a Shia mosque in Muscat, the capital of Oman. A total of 9 people including 3 attackers were killed in the attack on Tuesday morning. 28 more people were injured in this incident.
According to Oman Police, 6 people including a policeman were killed in the terrorist attack. One Indian and four Pakistani nationals were among the dead. Police have not released any details about the identity of the victims or the motive of the gunmen.
Islamic State said in a statement late on Tuesday that three of its “suicide bombers” opened fire on worshipers at the mosque on Monday evening and exchanged fire with Omani security forces until Tuesday morning.
IS released a video of the attack on its Telegram site. Another video shared on social media and verified by Reuters showed people running from the mosque. Then the sound of gunshots was heard.
Police are yet to identify a motive for the attack or say if anyone has been arrested in connection with the incident.
