Despite international pressure, Israel has seized 800 hectares (1,997 acres) of land in the occupied West Bank. Rights activists described it as one of Israel’s biggest moves to seize Palestinian land in the past decade. The news agency AFP reported in a report on Friday that Israel’s Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich declared the area of the occupied North Jordan Valley as “national land”. Al Jazeera.

Peace Now, an Israeli settlement watchdog, said the newly occupied area was the largest since the 1993 Oslo Accords. Despite international opposition, Israel has built many buildings in the West Bank over the past few decades. More than 490,000 Israelis are living illegally in the Palestinian territories. About 3 million Palestinians live there with them. On the same day, 4 other European countries announced the recognition of Palestine as an independent state. The four countries are Spain, Ireland, Slovenia and Malta.

Anadolu reports that the leaders of the four countries made the joint announcement after the European Council meeting in Brussels, Belgium on Friday. Leaders believe that the only way to achieve lasting peace and stability in the Middle East is to implement a two-state solution.

Meanwhile, Israeli attacks on Gaza’s al-Shifa hospital continue. At least 82 Palestinians were killed in brutal Israeli attacks on Friday. 110 people were injured.

On Saturday, the bodies of 5 Palestinians, including four children, were recovered from a building between the towns of Rafah and Khan Younis. The building collapsed in an Israeli attack. The number of dead in the indiscriminate attacks of the Israeli forces in the besieged Gaza Strip has exceeded 32 thousand. On Saturday, the Gaza Ministry of Health reported that since October 7, 32,700 Palestinians have been killed in indiscriminate attacks. At this time, 74 thousand 298 Palestinians were injured. Most of the dead were women and children. American youth do not see Israel in a good light because of the operation in Gaza. At the same time, they do not agree with the policy adopted by the Biden administration in the Gaza war. The survey was conducted among the youth aged 18-29 years. A Pew Research Center poll found that 46 percent of young people think Israel’s actions in response to the October 7 Hamas attack are unacceptable.

The United States, which has repeatedly vetoed the cease-fire in Gaza, has proposed an immediate cease-fire to the United Nations. But this time, China and Russia have vetoed the proposal raised by the United States in the UN Security Council. After the veto, Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations, Vasily Nebanza, said that the proposal was hypocritical of the United States. The US did nothing to stop Israel early on in Gaza. They have called for a cease-fire at a time when Gaza has practically been wiped off the face of the earth. Here we see an old hypocrisy on display.
