Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has outlined a plan to expand the borders of the Jewish state, sparking a backlash. In a recent documentary, he threatened to extend the Israeli border to the Jordan River in the future.

Turkish news agency Anadolu reported this in a report on Friday (October 11).

According to Smotrich, the Palestinian territories are encircled, as well as the territory of Egypt and the Syrian capital Damascus, as well as ambitions to expand into areas reaching into Iraq. and Saudi Arabia.

A documentary titled ‘In Israel: Ministers of Chaos’ was released this month by Arte Reportage, a French-German news magazine. Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gavir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich spoke here about the expansion of the Jewish state.

In the documentary Smotrich expresses his desire to establish a ‘Jewish state’ saying, ‘It is written that the future of Jerusalem will extend to Damascus’. The extreme right-wing minister has also made a religious interpretation of the ‘Greater Israel’ doctrine.

He also claims that this vision includes territories in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt and even Saudi Arabia.

To many, this view may seem extreme. But it has already been accepted as part of Israeli public discourse.
