Israeli Army IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi has announced his resignation. He said that he will be relieved of duty between September and December this year. It is feared that not only him, but a large number of high-ranking officers in the army may also resign at this time.
This information came out in a report of the Israeli media The Jerusalem Post.
It is not yet clear why these army officers, including the army chief, will resign. However, it is believed that they are going to leave their posts because of not being warned in advance about the attack by Hamas on October 7 and failing to prevent the attack.
The military operation of the pro-independence organization Hamas, which entered Israel on October 7 of last year, is seen as one of the biggest security failures in Israel’s history. The Israeli government is investigating this.
It is believed that these officials want to accept responsibility before the results of the investigation into the failure to prevent the October 7 attack are out. For now the war is going on so everyone is doing their duty. But if the war stops or if there is a convenient time, they will officially resign before that.
Earlier, Halevi said that he is responsible for what happened on October 7. He alone will bear all the responsibility for what happened and what will happen after that. Israel is now at war. So the army’s aim at present should be only on war.
