It could take up to 15 years to remove the massive amount of rubble created by Israel’s indiscriminate attacks on the besieged Palestinian Gaza Strip. Even if more than 100 lorries are used to remove this debris every day, it will still take this time. This work will cost 500 to 600 million dollars, which is more than 7 thousand crores in Bangladeshi currency.

The UN Environment Program published a report on this issue last June. This report mainly focuses on how much time and effort will be spent on rebuilding Gaza.

A United Nations official based in Gaza told the Guardian last week that the damage to infrastructure is simply insane…There is not a single building in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza, that has not been hit by Israeli strikes. He said, in reality, the geographical picture has changed in this region. Where there were no mountains before, now there are mountains. (Israel’s) 2,000 pound bombs literally changed the map of the region.

The rubble is filled with unexploded ordnance (bombs), resulting in more than 10 explosions per week, resulting in more deaths, maiming and amputations.

According to the UN Environment Program, a total of 137,297 buildings were damaged in Gaza, which is more than half of the total buildings in the territory. One-fourth of the affected buildings were completely destroyed. One-tenth were severely damaged and one-third were moderately damaged. According to the report, 250 to 500 hectares of land will be required to remove the debris of these buildings.

Earlier, another United Nations organization, the UN Development Program, said in May that the reconstruction of Gaza would take up to 2040, even at the fastest pace. And this restructuring will cost 40 billion dollars. The organization also said that the Israeli occupation has damaged Gaza so much that it has reduced the region’s 40 years of achievements in health, education and resources to dust.
