Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said that the Bangladesh issue was discussed in his first bilateral meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Apart from Bangladesh, Jaishankar said that the bilateral meeting also discussed US visa policy and various regional issues.

The Indian Foreign Minister went to Washington on January 20 to attend Donald Trump’s swearing-in ceremony. He had these discussions with the US Secretary of State in a meeting there.

Jaishankar wrote on his X (former Twitter) handle, “We have reaffirmed our strong bilateral relations.”

Jaishankar also described the newly appointed Foreign Minister Rubio as a strong advocate for India-US relations. The Indian Foreign Minister also wrote in the post that views were exchanged on many regional and global issues.

In addition to the US Secretary of State, the country’s National Security Advisor Mike Walz was present at the meeting.

Responding to a question at a press conference at the Indian Embassy in Washington DC after the meeting, Jaishankar admitted that Bangladesh was discussed in the meeting.

He said, “Yes, we had some discussions about Bangladesh. I don’t think it would be appropriate to go into detail about it.”
