Strong typhoon ‘Shanshan’ hit the southern part of Japan. The windows and tiles of the house were blown away by the strong wind. Apart from this, due to torrential rains, there are fears of floods and landslides. Three deaths have been reported.
The strongest typhoon in Japan this year hit the southern island of Kyushu at around 8 a.m. local time on Thursday with a speed of 252 kilometers per hour. 1 crore 2.5 million people live in the island.
Authorities ordered thousands of people to evacuate as a precaution before the typhoon hit. It also warns about floods, landslides and severe storms.
A disaster official told news agency AFP that 26 people had been injured so far in the coastal city of Miyazaki. Apart from this, 124 incidents of building damage have occurred.
Meanwhile, 254,610 homes in Kyushu are without power due to the storm.
The Japan Meteorological Agency warned that the risk of disaster due to heavy rains could quickly spread to the western part of Japan.
Major auto company Toyota has halted production at all of its 14 factories due to the powerful Typhoon Shanshan. Besides, Nissan and Honda have decided to close their operations in Kyushu.
Meanwhile, Japan Airlines canceled 275 domestic flights for Thursday. 14 thousand 893 passengers are in trouble. Japan Airlines canceled 13 flights for Friday. As a result, 1 thousand 307 passengers will be in trouble.
Besides, ANA Nixed canceled 212 domestic flights for Thursday and 42 for Friday.
It should be noted that hundreds of flights and trains have been disrupted due to Typhoon Ampil in Japan this month. Although the storm produced heavy rainfall, it bypassed the region and moved towards the Pacific coast without directly hitting Tokyo.
Earlier, Tropical Storm Maria caused record rainfall in northern Japan.
According to a study published last month, climate change is causing storms in the region to form closer to the coastline and rapidly increase in strength and hit land.
