The Arakan Army, the armed rebel group that controls Maungdaw town in Myanmar’s western Rakhine state, has allowed residents to re-enter and settle there. However, most residents of the town have not dared to return to their homes due to the risk of airstrikes by the military council.

According to local sources, the Arakan Army has allowed residents to re-enter Maungdaw town since last Wednesday (January 1).

A local resident said that despite being allowed to re-enter their town, most residents still do not dare to enter there because they are very worried about the airstrikes by the main military council.
