The death toll in Afghanistan’s floods has risen to more than three hundred

Flash floods in Afghanistan have killed more than three hundred people. More than a thousand houses have been damaged.

The World Food Organization (WFP) reported on Saturday (May 11). News agency AP.

According to the report, on Friday (May 10), heavy rains fell in Afghanistan’s Baghlan, Takhar and Badakashan as well as Western Ghar and Herat provinces. This has caused floods in rivers and streams. Villages, roads and farmlands in various provinces have become muddy.

At least 20 people have died in floods in neighboring Takhar province, state media said.

A video posted on social media showed many people gathering at Baghlan’s hospital. They are looking for their relatives. An official said that they should start digging graves. Their workers are preparing bodies for burial.

Taliban government chief spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid wrote on social media X (formerly Twitter) that more than a hundred people have died in the flood. Besides, a significant number of people were injured.

He also said that the government has ordered to take necessary measures to rescue the flood victims, take the injured to hospital and bury the bodies.

In addition to declaring a state of emergency, the country’s defense ministry is providing food, medicine and first aid to people in flood-affected areas. Around 100 people died in floods in 10 provinces of the country in the middle of last month.
