Iran’s supreme religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that those who think that the “resistance axis” led by Tehran has been wiped out due to the collapse of the government in Syria are mistaken.

Khamenei made the remarks at a women’s rally in Tehran on Tuesday (December 17), Al Jazeera reported.

The report said that while giving a speech at the rally in Tehran, he remembered the Hezbollah and Hamas leaders killed in the Israeli attack.

He said, “The spirit of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah is alive, the spirit of Sinwar is alive. Martyrs never die.”

At that time, the crowd gathered in Tehran started chanting “Death to America” and “Death to Israel.” Khamenei then said that their bodies are gone, but their faith and ideology remain. Their ideology will continue.

Iran’s supreme leader also said, “The Israelis are attacking Gaza every day. They are martyring people. But they are still standing tall. They are still resisting. Lebanon is resisting.”

Khameni said, the Jewish rulers think that they will surround and destroy Hezbollah through Syria. But their dream will not come true. Not Hezbollah, but Israel will be destroyed.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was ousted from power on December 8 in the face of the continued campaign by Syrian rebels. He then fled Damascus and took refuge in Russia. This ended Syria’s 13-year civil war and brought down Bashar al-Assad’s 24-year dictatorship.

Iran and Russia are long-time allies of the Assad family. Assad’s fall in Syria is being considered a major setback in the Middle East.
