US President Donald Trump is continuing his reckless campaign on the Gaza Strip, facing intense criticism from around the world. On Monday, he reiterated that his plan would see Gaza remain under US administration and 2.2 million Palestinians permanently resettled elsewhere, but they would never be able to return to Gaza.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump said, “We will build safe, beautiful communities—maybe five or six, or two or three, away from the dangerous areas of Gaza.”
He added, “I will take full responsibility for this project. It will be a real estate development project for the future, very beautiful land.”
Fox News journalist Brett Baer asked, “Will the Palestinians then have the right to return to Gaza?”
Trump replied, “No, because they will have better housing. I will provide permanent residence for them.”
Trump claimed that he would be able to make a deal with Egypt and Jordan, noting that we give them billions of dollars every year.
Earlier, while speaking to reporters on Air Force One, he said that the Palestinians will not be allowed to return to Gaza. With the help of wealthy countries in the Middle East, new and modern cities will be built for them, where they can live in peace, perhaps for the first time in hundreds of years.
Trump’s plan has been directly rejected by various countries in the Middle East. Many Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, have condemned it as unacceptable. Jordan’s King Abdullah II is expected to take a strong stance against the proposal in a meeting with Trump in Washington on February 11.
Meanwhile, Egypt will host an emergency summit of Arab countries on February 27, where the serious situation on the Palestinian issue will be discussed.
