Yemen’s Houthi rebels are fully prepared to strike if Israel resumes fighting in Gaza and does not abide by the terms of the ceasefire, Houthi leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi warned in a televised address on Tuesday (February 11).

He said, “Our hands are on the trigger of our weapons, and we are ready to retaliate immediately if Israel resumes its aggression in Gaza.”

During the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, the Houthis have attacked Israeli and other ships, disrupting vital shipping lanes in the Red Sea. They claim that these attacks were carried out in solidarity with the Palestinians.

Meanwhile, Hamas has announced that it will suspend the release of Israeli hostages, accusing them of violating the ongoing ceasefire agreement in Gaza. In response, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has ordered the country’s army to be on high alert.

The Houthis, as part of an Iran-backed resistance coalition, have previously launched missile and drone attacks on Israel, even though Israel is hundreds of kilometers away from Yemen.

The future of the Gaza ceasefire is uncertain, raising fears of further escalation in the Middle East.
