The United States recently requested the Qatari authorities to order the Palestinian independence movement Hamas to leave Doha. The Qatari authorities said in this regard that they would no longer welcome Hamas political leaders in their country.
This was reported by the Hebrew-language Kan News on Friday.
The Israeli media reported that the Qatari authorities recently informed the Palestinian resistance group of this decision.
Earlier, some Republican US senators sent a letter to the Biden administration urging it to reconsider US policy towards Qatar.
In the letter, 12 senators, led by Senate Armed Services and Foreign Affairs Committee members Roger Wicker and Jim Risch, said that it was necessary to freeze the assets of Hamas officials based in Qatar and bring Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal to justice.
The letter said, ‘Hamas can be defeated and it is very important to close their safe haven abroad.’
Qatar has been trying to broker a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel for months.
According to an Al Jazeera report, an Israeli official met with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani for peace talks after the assassination of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.
Israeli intelligence chief David Barnia and CIA director Bill Burns also attended the talks.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Al Thani last month and stressed Qatar’s “essential” role in efforts to end the fighting in the Gaza Strip and free the hostages.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Health Authority said that the occupation forces have been attacking the north and south of Gaza since early Saturday as part of the ongoing Israeli offensive in Gaza. At least 21 more Palestinians have been killed in the past 24 hours.
Among them, 9 people were killed and several others were injured in an Israeli bomb attack in the southern al-Mawasi area, which was declared a ‘safe zone’.
This brings the total number of Palestinians killed and 102,765 injured in the Israeli massacre in Gaza over the past year. Source: Anadolu Agency
