The statements made by Sheikh Hasina virtually after she was ousted from power in Bangladesh and took refuge in India were her own management and India had no role in them.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs summoned Bangladesh’s Acting High Commissioner in New Delhi on Friday and made the announcement.

After summoning Nurul Islam, Indian Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a press briefing in the afternoon that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s (speech) was said to be her own management and India had no role in it. If this is mixed with the Indian government’s position, nothing positive will come of it in the bilateral relationship.

Sheikh Hasina has recently given several live speeches on various social media platforms, including Facebook. The Indian Acting High Commissioner in Dhaka was summoned on charges of giving her an opportunity to make ‘provocative’ statements. Nurul Islam was summoned to New Delhi a day later.

Spokesperson Jaiswal said Nurul Islam was told that India wants positive, constructive and mutually beneficial relations with Bangladesh.

Jaiswal added that while the Indian government continues to strive for mutually beneficial relations, we expect Bangladesh to also play a supportive role in the interests of the relationship by ensuring that the environment does not deteriorate.
