Super Typhoon Man-E hits the Philippines. The strong typhoon hit the Catanduanes island of the country on Saturday (November 16) night local time. The wind speed at that time was 195 kilometers per hour (121 miles). This is the sixth typhoon to hit the Philippines in the past month.
In a report, Qatar-based media Al Jazeera said that many trees on the island were uprooted by Super Typhoon Man-E. Apart from this, the electricity cable is also torn.
Typhoon Man-E hit the Catanduanes coast with waves exceeding 14 meters. Tides of up to three meters (10 feet) are expected in the capital Manila and other vulnerable coastal areas in the next 48 hours.
The typhoon is expected to hit Luzon Island, the most populous and economically important region of the Philippines, around noon on Sunday (November 17). The storm may later move north of Manila and move towards the South China Sea on Monday (Nov 18).
Millions of people have already been evacuated to safe shelters due to the typhoon. Several flights have been cancelled. All types of vessels, from fishing boats to large tankers, have been ordered to return to the port.
The Philippine Meteorological Department (PAGSA) has issued a ‘catastrophic situation’ warning for the vulnerable Bicol region. About 180,000 people have been evacuated from the region.
