Typhoon Yagi has hit a tourist island in southern China with great force. As a result there is heavy rain and wind. This is the strongest typhoon in the last decade.
According to Chinese state media, Super Typhoon Yagi hit northeast of Hainan Island at 4 pm local time on Friday (September 6) at a speed of 223 km.
Typhoon Yagi that hit Hainan Island is much stronger than Typhoon ‘Rammasun’ that hit in 2014. At that time 46 people died due to this storm. The China Meteorological Department said the strong typhoon that hit in autumn could bring heavy rainfall.
400,000 people have been evacuated from that island to a safe place to save them from Yagi. Apart from this, boat, train and air travel has been cancelled. Schools have also been declared closed.
The strength doubled after Typhoon Yagi wreaked havoc in the northern Philippines last week. Since then it has been stuck in China. It is the second strongest typhoon this year.
