Thailand’s Phew Thai Party has chosen Petang Tarn Shinawatra as its candidate for the country’s next prime minister. Petangtarn, 37, is the daughter of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
According to the Reuters news agency, Pheu Thai Party General Secretary Saroong Thienthong announced the name of Petang Tarn as the party’s prime ministerial candidate at a press conference in the country’s capital, Bangkok, on Thursday.
The country’s parliament will vote for the new prime minister on Friday.
Petangtarn said, “We are confident that our party and alliance partners will lead to overcome the country’s economic crisis.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Thailand’s Prime Minister Sretha Thavisin was deposed by the country’s Constitutional Court. The judgment also ordered the dissolution of Thavisin’s cabinet. The day after that Pheu Thai Party announced the name of its candidate for the post of Prime Minister.
Incidentally, the current government of Thailand is made up of a coalition of 11 parties. Their biggest party is Phew Thai Party.
Sretha was accused of appointing a lawyer convicted of corruption as a minister. By this he is ‘violating the rules of morality’. Along with Sretha, Pheu Thai party three lost their Prime Ministership through the Constitutional Court.
