India is eyeing possible joint military exercises between Bangladesh and China. Chinese news agency Xinhua and People’s Daily reported that the exercise is likely to take place in May.
China’s Xinhua news agency quoted the Ministry of National Defense in a news report on Thursday that the armies of China and Bangladesh will hold joint military exercises.
According to the Chinese ministry, a contingent of China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) will go to Bangladesh in early May to participate in joint exercises based on the consent of both sides.
When reporters in Delhi drew attention to the issue, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, India always keeps an eye on such exercises in neighboring countries or elsewhere.
When the spokesman was asked about the news of the possible exercise at the weekly briefing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, he said, “We have informed us many times about this matter. We keep an eye on all kinds of events in our neighboring states or elsewhere. Especially those events that may affect our economy and security. We also take necessary steps in all those matters.
According to Xinhua and People’s Daily, the armies of China and Bangladesh held a joint military exercise in May to expand the area of cooperation between the two countries and increase practical exchanges. For that, PLA will send a team to Bangladesh for training.
It is also said in the media that the training camp will be held on the basis of the United Nations system in the context of combating terrorism and establishing peace.
