Pakistan wants to resolve all important issues, including Kashmir, with its arch-enemy India. In this regard, the country’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that his country wants to resolve all important issues, including Kashmir, with India through dialogue.

He also reiterated Pakistan’s ‘unwavering’ support for the Kashmiri people.

He said this while addressing a special session of the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) legislature on Wednesday (February 5) on the occasion of ‘Kashmir Solidarity Day’.

Pakistan expresses solidarity with the Kashmiris every year on this day.

Shahbaz Sharif said, we want all problems to be resolved through dialogue, and the Kashmir issue is no exception.

He said, ‘India should come out of the mindset of August 5, 2019, fulfill its UN commitments and start dialogue’.

The Pakistani Prime Minister’s remarks hint at the abrogation of Article 370 of the Indian Constitution. Through which the Modi government revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir on that day and divided the state into two union territories.

Relations between the two countries have further deteriorated since the abrogation of Article 370 from the Indian Constitution in 2019.

Kashmir issue and India-Pakistan relations

Shahbaz Sharif said that the only way to improve relations between Pakistan and India is through dialogue, which was also stated in the Lahore Declaration of 1999. At that time, Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee visited Pakistan and both countries agreed to a peaceful solution.

Meanwhile, India has repeatedly said that it wants normal relations with Pakistan. But in an environment free from terrorism, hostility and violence.

The Modi government has clearly stated that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh were, are and will always be an integral part of India.

Pakistan’s position on Kashmir

In this regard, Shahbaz Sharif said, ‘India is stockpiling weapons, but peace will not come through force of arms. This will not change the fate of the people of this region. India must understand that peace is the only way to development.

He said, “Pakistan will continue its moral, diplomatic and political support until the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination is implemented.”

Meanwhile, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif have called on the international community to put pressure on India so that the people of Kashmir can determine their future and a lasting peace is established in the region.

Pakistan’s army chief and other high-ranking military officials have also reiterated their support for the Kashmiris.

Kashmiri Prime Minister’s statement

Meanwhile, expressing solidarity with Pakistan, Pakistan-occupied Kashmir’s ‘Prime Minister’ Anwarul Haq said, “The final destination of Kashmiris is Pakistan and peace will not come to the region unless the Kashmir issue is resolved.”

A report by the country’s state broadcaster Radio Pakistan said that posters and billboards have been put up on important roads, airports and railway stations to mark Kashmir Solidarity Day.
