Pakistan’s ruling government has announced plans to ban former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s political party, PTI. However, the United States expressed deep concern in opposing this decision.

On Monday, Pakistan’s Information Minister Ataullah Tarar announced in a press conference that PTI cannot be kept in existence if the country is to move forward.

Tarar said, “In view of the foreign fund case, the May 9 riots and the cipher case, as well as the resolution passed in the US, we believe there is enough credible evidence to ban PTI.”

In response to a question about this incident, the spokesperson of the US State Department, Matthew Miller, referring to the media reports and the announcement of the Pakistani government, said that this is the beginning of a complex process.

He said, the process of banning a political party is a matter of deep concern to us.

This US spokesperson said that the US supports the constitution and democratic principles as well as human rights and freedom of speech.
