When can Hezbollah engage in conflict with Israel?
Last Updated on July 12, 2024 8:55 am
Military tensions between Hezbollah and Israel escalated dramatically after 7 October. Bringing the two sides to the brink of full-scale war. Recently, the intensity and scale of the conflict has increased to such an extent that the two sides may descend into direct war at any time.
When we talk about reaching the brink of war, it means that Hezbollah and Israel have come very close to a dangerous situation. The recent escalation of violence between the two sides may seem like a turning point in the conflict. However, Hezbollah has said that they do not want to engage in war with Israel right now. Hezbollah will enter the fight only when Hamas is completely eliminated. The time has not yet come for war. The redline for Hezbollah is the complete collapse of Hamas in Gaza.
In light of this, it appears that neither Hezbollah nor Israel have any intention of crossing the dangerous border. However, due to the ongoing counter-attacks between them and the political deadlock caused by the Gaza conflict, one of the two sides could make a big mistake. A direct war can be waged at any time.
The Israeli Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), an Israeli security think tank, said that Israel could face serious losses if it engages in a full-scale war with the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah. It is believed that Israel will face heavy losses mainly because of Hezbollah’s diverse and large stockpile of weapons.
According to the report of the Lebanese media Al-Maydin, this Israeli think tank has done a detailed study on the outcome of the ongoing conflict with Hezbollah in the northern part of Israel if it turns into a full-scale war. The issue has become particularly important as Israeli officials continue to threaten all-out war with Hezbollah.
According to the INSS report, since October 8 of last year, Hezbollah has launched various attacks including more than 5,000 missiles and rockets at Israel. Among these are high-powered shells, anti-tank guided missiles. Importantly, most of these attacks hit their targets almost perfectly. So far 29 Israelis have lost their lives in these attacks.
According to a report by an Israeli think tank, Hezbollah has been Israel’s main threat since the 2006 Israel-Lebanon war. Since that war, the group has focused on expanding its arsenal. According to reports, Hezbollah has at least 150,000 missiles and other weapons.
