A new interim government led by the rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) has been formed in Syria since the fall of Bashar al-Assad. One of the members of this interim government is Aisha al-Dibs. She has been appointed as the Minister of Women’s Affairs.
Aisha al-Dibs said that her administration will be able to allow women to contribute to the reconstruction of the country, which has been torn apart by civil war for more than a decade. Aisha al-Dibs made these remarks in an interview with Al Jazeera on Sunday (December 22).
In the interview, Aisha al-Dibs said that the interim government is committed to involving Syrian women in social, cultural and political institutions and to employing qualified women in the healthcare and education sectors.
The minister of the country’s interim government encouraged women from all provinces and communities in Syria to participate in the upcoming national conference. The conference is expected to discuss the future of the country.
A report will be prepared on the release of female prisoners from Assad regime prisons and their welfare, said Aisha al-Dibs. She also said that prison officials involved in the torture of prisoners in prisons will be brought to justice.
She said that the former female prisoners need psychological support to rehabilitate them. They need health care, education and legal protection so that they can prepare for lawsuits against prison officials.
The regime of dictator Bashar al-Assad fell on December 8 with the capture of Damascus by rebel fighters. Not only that, but Bashar al-Assad fled the country, ending more than five decades of family rule in Syria.
