China’s Defense Ministry has called the United States a war-addicted country. China believes that Washington has become the biggest threat to global security. Beijing has also accused the US Defense Department of distorting China’s defense policy and presenting it to the world.

Ministry spokesman Zhang Xiaogang said that the US Defense Department report released this week misinterpreted China’s defense policy. It speculated about military capabilities, boasted about the country’s internal affairs and “desperately slandered” Beijing for exaggerating the so-called Chinese threat.

Zhang said that the war-addicted United States has become the biggest destroyer of international order and the biggest threat to global security.

Beijing “strongly condemned and firmly opposed” the contents of the 182-page Pentagon report. Zhang said that the US is only looking for excuses to improve its own military capabilities.

He stressed that China adheres to the policy of peaceful development and national defense. At the same time, it fulfills the international responsibilities expected of a major power. On the other hand, the United States uses its military power to maintain unilateral hegemony and often exerts extreme pressure to promote regime change and incite color revolutions.

He cited the examples of “illegal wars and military operations” in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria. The military operations have caused a large number of civilian casualties and massive humanitarian disasters.

At the same time, the Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman also talked about US nuclear aggression. He said, “We adhere to the nuclear strategy of self-defense and the principle of no first use.” Meanwhile, Washington’s nuclear policy – the Acus submarine cooperation with Australia, weakens the international nuclear non-proliferation regime and significantly disrupts international and regional peace and stability.

He called on the United States to seriously reflect on itself and “give a responsible account” to the international community.

The spokesman also warned that attempts to separate Taiwan from the mainland will never be tolerated.

Calling Washington’s arms sales and military assistance to Taipei a violation of the “one China principle,” Zhang said the Chinese people are determined to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He said, “Our goal is to build a military relationship based on equality and respect, characterized by no conflict or tension. Our goal is to conduct open and pragmatic cooperation and gradually build mutual trust.”
