Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit Russia in 2025, Moscow’s ambassador to Russia Igor Morgulov confirmed to Russian state-run RIA News on Friday morning.
Igor Morgulov said, “As far as I can tell, the appropriate plans are being prepared. It is no secret that the Chinese president will visit Russia next year.”
China’s Foreign Ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Putin visited China in February 2022, when he announced a joint partnership with China, days after he sent thousands of troops to Ukraine. He visited China after his re-election in May and announced a new relationship there, emphasizing his opposition to US policies.
Xi Jinping was welcomed as a dear friend to the Kremlin in 2023, when he was elected for a third term.
Morgulov told RIA News that China has refrained from condemning the 34-month-old Ukraine-Russia war, understanding the basis of the conflict, because they face many of the same challenges. The United States and its allies are increasing pressure on China in the Asia-Pacific region.
He said that NATO is planning to shift its military infrastructure to the Asia-Pacific region.
Russia and China should jointly respond to US policy, he commented.
Morgulov said that on the international stage, our countries should be given more “proactive response”, as if the “proactive deterrence” that the West is trying to implement against Russia and China.
Currently, Russian forces occupy about 20 percent of Ukraine’s territory and have recently been advancing at a faster pace than in the early stages of the war.
