10,000 lightning strikes in one night in Hong Kong

Hong Kong has been struck by lightning nearly 10,000 times in one night. This was reported by the country’s local weather monitoring center.

The incident took place between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning local time. News from AFP.

The Hong Kong Meteorological Observatory said the rain started around 9pm on Tuesday. The organization recorded the maximum 5 thousand 914 lightning strikes in one hour at night. At 10:59 a.m. on Wednesday, the number of lightning strikes stood at 9,437. Most of the lightning struck the eastern part of Hong Kong’s New Territory.

A video on social media showed a Cantonese opera house made of bamboo collapsing in the thunderstorm. According to observers, rain and thundershowers may continue tomorrow till Thursday. This time the second highest lightning struck the island.

The reason for this is that the region usually has high humidity in the month of April. Rainy season progresses. So residents are prepared for sudden rains.
