Turkish novelist and poet Aylem Tok and his son have been arrested by the police from the United States, who were involved in a car accident in Istanbul, the capital of Turkey.
Turkish Justice Minister Yilmaz Tun said they were arrested on Friday.
Reuters reports that US authorities have arrested fugitive writer Aylem Tok, who fled to the United States via Egypt with his minor son Taimur Sihantimur.
Yilmaz Tun said in a post on his social media account that the US Department of Justice informed Turkey that he was detained under an extradition treaty between the two countries.
It is known that on the day of the incident, the 17-year-old son of poet Aylem Tok, Taimur Sihantimur, was driving the car. He had no license.
Ailem Tok was in the car at that time. Clashes erupted in Turkey after five people were injured in the crash, while one died from injuries.
Sihantimur left the scene after his mother, Tok, came to pick him up after the accident. Later they both went to Egypt.
Istanbul’s chief public prosecutor’s office issued an arrest warrant for Sihantimur and his father, Aylem Tok, and requested the country’s justice ministry issue a red notice. Interpol issued a red notice against the two last month.
