Riyadh wants to triple the number of Muslims performing Umrah in Saudi Arabia to 30 million a year. Where more than 45 lakhs are performing Umrah last year. Bangladeshis are in the sixth position in this list.
Abdul Rahman bin Fahd, the country’s assistant undersecretary for Umrah affairs, told Saudi television Al-Ekhbariya this information. The news is from Gulf News
He said, “The number of people performing Umrah is increasing at a significant rate every year. In such a reality, the Riyadh government has a plan to increase the number of Umrah pilgrims from one crore to three crore this year.
In the first six months of the new Hijri year, more than 4.5 million people went to Saudi Arabia to perform this religious ceremony, the second most important after Hajj.
About 5 million Umrah visas have been issued since the beginning of the new Hijri year till February 5. Among them, more than 4 million people went to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah by air and about 5 lakh through various border areas and 3 lakh 6 thousand 75 by sea.
According to the ministry, the largest number of Umrah pilgrims came from Indonesia. This number is 10 lakh 5 thousand 65 people. Pakistan is in the second position, the number of Umrah pilgrims in the country is 792 thousand 208 people. India is also in the third position. The number of Umrah pilgrims from the country is 4 lakh 48 thousand 765 people.
Besides, Egypt is in the fourth position. 3 lakh 6 thousand 480 people performed Umrah from the country. After that, Iraq is in the fifth position, the number of people performing Umrah in the country is 239 thousand 640 people. And 2 lakh 31 thousand 92 people performed Umrah last year from Bangladesh which is in sixth position.
