Arakan Army seizes military headquarters in Rakhine, Bangladesh on alert

The Arakan Army has claimed that the Western Command of the Myanmar military has been seized. It also said that Deputy Regional Commander General Thaung Tun and General Kyaw Kyaw have been arrested.

The Arakan Army spokesperson gave this information in a statement on Friday.

The statement said that the entire Western Military Headquarters in Rakhine Province has been seized. Deputy Regional Commander General Thaung Tun and General Kyaw Kyaw have been arrested. In addition, efforts are being made to chase down the members of the Military Council who have fled.

The statement further claimed that the entire Western Region Military Headquarters had been seized by 12 noon on Friday (December 20).

Meanwhile, the headquarters of this military in Rakhine Province is located very close to the Bangladesh border. In this situation, the concerned quarters said that the alert has been increased on the Bangladesh border.

Locals said that in the past few weeks, explosions have been heard continuously from different parts of Bangladesh along the Myanmar border.

According to media reports, explosions could be heard from different parts of Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh for an hour on Wednesday night.

Regarding the matter, the Teknaf administration has informed that continuous explosions were being heard in the middle. However, no explosions were heard from Teknaf for 9 days before Wednesday. Explosions were heard for an hour on Wednesday night.

In this situation, new concerns have arisen in the minds of local residents. The Teknaf administration claims that they are spending the night in fear.

Alertness has been increased on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border

In the ongoing situation, orders have been given to increase further surveillance on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border. Myanmar is located east of the Naf River.

The Teknaf administration said that surveillance by the Bangladesh Coast Guard and BGB has been increased on the border. Surveillance is being carried out on land. Surveillance is also being carried out on waterways.

What impact could it have on Bangladesh?

According to the concerned quarters, the current situation in Myanmar could lead to increased infiltration from Bangladesh. The problem with the Rohingyas could increase. The issue of Rohingya repatriation could become complicated. And in that situation, the concerned quarters believe that there has also been concern in Bangladesh about the events in Myanmar.
