There was a bomb attack in the northern part of Pakistan. 5 people including a former senator were killed.
Police said the attack took place on Wednesday. British news agency Reuters reported this news in a report.
Police officer Bakh Munir said that Senator Hidayetullah was campaigning in Bajur tribal district bordering Afghanistan. At that time, a remote control bomb was blasted targeting his car.
Another policeman named Anwarul Haque said that the bomb was a hand-made explosive device.
The Pakistani Taliban, or Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has denied any involvement in the attack. The group is an offshoot of Islamist and sectarian militancy.
Bajur is one of several tribal districts bordering Afghanistan. The lawless region has long been a safe haven for Islamist militants. Militants here attack on both sides of the border.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the incident in a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.
