Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called on Arab and Muslim countries to support the Palestinians despite the ceasefire in Gaza. He made the call at a cabinet meeting in the capital Ankara.

In a report on Tuesday (January 21), Daily Sabah reported that Erdogan called on the Arab and Muslim world to show solidarity and support for the people of Gaza through humanitarian aid at a cabinet meeting in the capital Ankara.

Erdogan noted that Turkey has actively supported the ceasefire agreement through multi-faceted diplomatic efforts. He also praised the Palestinian people for their resilience in defending their land despite huge challenges.

Erdogan also pointed to Israel’s inhumane treatment of Palestinian prisoners, saying that the hostage exchange between Israel and Palestine shows which side values human life and dignity.

Incidentally, after a 15-month-long invasion, the much-awaited ceasefire came into effect in the besieged Palestinian territory of Gaza on Sunday (January 19). Qatar, Egypt and the United States have mediated the ceasefire talks. On the first day of the ceasefire, Hamas released three female Israeli hostages. In exchange, the Israeli authorities released 90 Palestinian prisoners.

Since October 7, 2023, more than 46,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 110,000 injured in Israeli attacks on Gaza.
