After the Israeli invasion of the besieged Gaza Strip of Palestine started on October 7 of last year, support for the Gazans and Palestine has started to increase recently across Europe. This time, the East Asian country of Japan is thinking about recognizing Palestine as a state.
This information is known from a report of Press TV of Iran.
In a meeting held at the country’s National Press Club in the Japanese capital Tokyo, Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa said that Japan is considering formally recognizing the Palestinian state based on the progress of the ongoing “peace process” in the Middle East.
Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Ghaiti was also present in this meeting.
The foreign minister said his government supports the proposed “two-state solution” to the decades-long Israeli occupation of Palestine. Japan understands the desire of the Palestinians to establish an independent sovereign state and supports ongoing efforts to achieve this goal.
Earlier, Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Ghaiti called on Japan to recognize the Palestinian state. The Secretary General of the Arab League attended the Fifth Japan-Arab Economic Forum held at the Japan National Press Club and hinted at a two-state solution to the Palestinian issue.
He said, this is the only solution. Apartheid, annexation and oppression of Palestinian land by Israel is not a realistic solution.
Incidentally, the United States and most of its allies supported Israel at the beginning of the conflict, with the exception of a few Western countries. Spain and Ireland are among them. Both countries recognized Palestine as an independent state. Another western country, Norway, has also announced this recognition.
