Turkey will help build a terror-free Syria: Erdogan

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey wants to see a united and terror-free Syria and that Syria should be ruled by its people.

Erdogan made these remarks in a phone call with NATO chief Mark Rutte regarding the situation in Syria. Al Jazeera reported.

Erdogan claimed that Turkey has supported protecting Syria’s territorial integrity and stability since the first day of the civil war.

He stressed that Syria should be ruled by its people. Turkey will continue to provide all-out support for the creation of a united and terror-free Syria.

Earlier, while talking to Turkish ambassadors, the country’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that Ankara wants to see a new Syria that lives in harmony with its neighbors. Turkey is ready to help rebuild Syria.

Fidan said that Turkey will also help displaced refugees return to Syria safely. A new era has begun in Syria. Now is the time to move forward.

President Assad’s 24-year-old regime collapsed in just 12 days under a strong rebel offensive. Rebels began entering the capital Damascus on Sunday morning (December 8). In the meantime, President Bashar al-Assad fled the capital Damascus. He is currently taking refuge in Russia with his family.

Turkey is home to about 3 million Syrian refugees. After Assad’s fall, Syrian expatriates in Ankara held a rally celebrating the rebel victory. They are now starting to think anew about their future. They see the rebel victory as a possibility for their repatriation.
