The greed to stay in power has made Benjamin Netanyahu inhuman. The leader of the Likud Party is desperate to withdraw from the Gaza ceasefire to keep his seat. This is what Israeli professor Menachem Klein himself thinks.

The war in Gaza has been going on for 15 months. More than 46,000 Palestinians have lost their lives due to Israel’s brutality and atrocities. The ceasefire is now in effect.

The first phase of the ceasefire in Gaza came into effect on January 19. It is valid for 42 days, i.e. until March 1. According to the terms, negotiations on the second phase of the ceasefire are supposed to begin before the 16th day after the first phase comes into effect. However, 23 days have passed, but it has not yet begun.

Menachem Klein, a professor at Bar-Ilan University in Israel, told Al Jazeera that it is clear as day that Netanyahu does not want to stop the war. He mentioned two reasons. The first is that elections will have to be held if the war stops. And Netanyahu may lose the election. The second reason is that after the war, an investigation will begin. And he could get caught in it.

Klein told Al Jazeera that it is clear that Netanyahu wants to restart the war and withdraw from the ceasefire agreement. He is looking for an ‘excuse’ to continue it despite public pressure to stop the war.

He also said that Netanyahu’s back is against the wall. It is impossible to achieve his set goal. Now Netanyahu wants to evict the entire Gazan population.

The professor also said that there is no harm in the war continuing. But if the ceasefire is extended, it will be harmful to Netanyahu. If the ceasefire is permanent, he will have to hold elections. At the same time, an investigation will begin soon. So he has no choice but to continue the war forever.

Incidentally, the Palestinian independence organization Hamas has already temporarily suspended the release of Israeli hostages. They allege that Israel is not abiding by the terms of the ceasefire agreement.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has called on Israel to break the agreement if all hostages are not released by next Saturday.
