The Israeli military has arrested 28 Palestinians in one operation after another in the occupied West Bank. Al Jazeera, a Qatar-based news agency, reported this information on Friday.
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society said on Thursday that overnight raids were underway in Jenin, Hebron, Bethlehem, Ramallah and al-Bireh, Nablus and Jerusalem. These operations are part of Israel’s violent attacks in the occupied territories.
The group, which keeps a daily record of the arrests, said Israeli forces used severe beatings and threatened the families of arrested Palestinians. Violence has escalated in the occupied West Bank since the Gaza war broke out in October last year.
Frequent military raids against various Palestinian groups, raids by Jewish settlers in Palestinian villages, and attacks by Palestinians on the streets have occurred. Al Jazeera journalist Noor Odeh from Ramallah said the Israeli military has dramatically stepped up its operations. Also conducted about 38 raids in one day. The number of arrests is also increasing. Home demolitions have increased by 25 percent compared to last year. More than a thousand Palestinians are displaced.
Reuters reported that troops also carried out drone strikes after overnight bombardment in northern Gaza on Thursday. According to the Palestinian Civil Emergency Service, at least seven people have been killed so far in the attack in the city of Shejaiya. Many others were trapped under the rubble. As a result, more casualties are expected.
Footage obtained by Reuters showed women, men and children running through the streets carrying bags and food after the crackdown. Some men were carrying injured children in their arms while fleeing. Children are being targeted here, said a man carrying a bloodied baby boy. Israel’s military spokesman said it had no comment on reports of casualties in Shejaia.
