The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has emphasized the necessity of maintaining good relations with neighboring countries, particularly Pakistan. Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, urged the new Pakistani government to exhibit flexibility in addressing issues related to Afghan refugees.
“We want Pakistan to make good progress in various sectors with Afghanistan and ask the future government to solve all its problems,” stated Mujahid. He underscored the importance of fostering positive relations with all neighboring countries, including Pakistan, and expressed the Islamic Emirate’s desire to improve ties.
The spokesperson also called on Pakistan to address various issues, including expanding relations, resolving challenges faced by Afghan traders, and addressing matters related to the Durand Line, a long-standing border dispute.
Regarding the deportation of Afghan refugees, Mujahid urged flexibility, acknowledging Pakistan’s historical hosting of migrants. He emphasized the need for considering Afghanistan’s relations with Pakistan until the refugees can safely return.
The recent formation of a coalition government in Pakistan, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari, raises questions about the potential resolution of existing problems between the two countries. Analysts suggest that the new government’s foreign policy may be influenced by military supervision, particularly in the context of accusations against Afghanistan as a hub for terrorism.
Despite concerns over the new government’s stability, analysts anticipate that it will prioritize issues such as the deportation of Afghan refugees and the importance of trade between the two nations. The interim Pakistani government has deported over 800,000 Afghan refugees since November, a move viewed by Islamic Emirate officials as a pressure tactic on the caretaker government in Afghanistan. The unfolding dynamics between Afghanistan and Pakistan will play a crucial role in shaping regional stability and diplomatic ties.
