The verdict in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case against former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi was scheduled to be announced on Monday. However, the Accountability Court in Islamabad has postponed the verdict.
On Monday, Justice Nasir Javed Rana said in the court that the verdict will not be announced today (Monday). The vacation (in the court) is beginning and there is also a proceeding in the High Court.
The judge also said that a new date will be set for the verdict soon.
The winter vacation in the court officially begins tomorrow (Tuesday). This vacation will continue until January 1.
Imran Khan, the founder of the political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), is currently imprisoned in the country’s Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) of Pakistan has filed a case against him and Bushra Bibi in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case, alleging a 190 million pound embezzlement. Imran was arrested in May last year in this case.
Imran and Bushra were charged in the corruption case on February 27, shortly after the general elections.
The case alleges that Imran and Bushra Bibi took crores of rupees and a large amount of land from Bahria Town Limited. These transactions were made to legitimize the Rs 5,000 crore that the UK had returned to Pakistan during the previous PTI government led by Imran.
In December, Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed a case against Imran, his wife Bushra and eight others in connection with corruption related to Al-Qadir University.
The NAB reference alleged that Imran, who is currently in jail, played a “significant role” in illegally transferring money to an account used for the sale of land owned by Bahria Town Company in Karachi.
The NAB also claimed that despite being given multiple opportunities to justify his actions and provide information, the accused deliberately, maliciously and on one or more pretexts refused to provide information.
Other suspects in the case include real estate businessman Malik Riaz Hussain and his son Ahmed Ali Riaz, Mirza Shehzad Akbar and Zulfi Bukhari. However, they remained absconding after not attending the investigation and court proceedings. They were later declared as convicted criminals.
Farhat Shahzadi, a close friend of Imran’s wife Bushra, and Ziaul Mustafa Nasim, a legal expert in the Assets Recovery Unit of the PTI government, were also declared convicted criminals.
The assets of each of these six accused have been seized.
