Heavy rainfall has been recorded in different parts of Oman. Heavy rains including rain and thunder were observed in coastal areas of Dhofar including Salalah and even desert areas since Thursday morning.

In addition, heavy rainfall caused artificial flooding in Al Buraimi, Musandam, Dhahira, Al Dakhiliya, North and South Al Batinah, Muscat, North and South Al Sharqiyah and Al Usta.

Earlier, concerned authorities in Oman issued emergency instructions in anticipation of rain and subsequent flooding. Besides, the government of the country has stopped physical classes in educational institutions.

State transport agency Mosalat also suspended bus services on several routes until further notice. Under this order, bus services on Muscat to Jalan Bin Bowali, Sur and Muscat to Sharjah routes have been suspended.

Reports of heavy rain are now a regular occurrence in Oman. After several heavy rains and floods in April, the Middle Eastern country was hit by heavy rains and thunderstorms in the beginning of May.

According to the information provided by the National Early Warning Center, this situation caused by the effect of low pressure may continue till Saturday.

The agency advised everyone to be cautious until the situation normalizes, warning of the possibility of flash floods. Primarily due to climate change, Oman is experiencing 10 to 40 percent more rainfall than before.
