Accepting responsibility for the failure, now the Israeli army chief Harji Halevi may resign. Local media reported such information on Saturday.

Israel’s private broadcaster Channel 12 reported that after the resignation of the country’s military intelligence chief, Major General Aharon Haliva, on Monday, it became clear that all officials responsible for failing to predict the October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas must step down.

The report claims that Halevy wrote his resignation letter to the chief of staff after receiving legal advice. It is assumed that when the inquiry committee is formed, all its statements will also be presented.

Several other officers, including the head of the Shin Bet’s domestic security agency Ronen Bar, have been suggested to enlist. Halevi is among the commanders who will be forced to retire in the near future.

Concerns are growing about what will happen after Halevy’s resignation for the security and political system, the Israeli channel reported. Many commanders, including Maj. Gen. Yaron Finkelman and Maj. Gen. Eliezer Toledano, who were once seen as possible successors, are now seen as part of the failure.

Israel’s political establishment is now hoping to replace the director general of the defense ministry, Major General Yaal Zamir Halevi.

Recently, Israel’s military intelligence chief Major General Aharon Haliva resigned. On October 7 last year, he resigned after failing to prevent Hamas attacks.
