The Philippines has been hit by natural disasters one after another. Five cyclones hit in just one month, causing extensive damage to infrastructure along with loss of lives. Two more deadly cyclones are poised to lash the country — Super Typhoon Usagi and Tropical Storm Man-E.

This information was reported in a report by Reuters on Thursday (November 14).

Authorities said the fifth typhoon in a month is about to hit the Philippines. For this, the residents of the northeastern city have been instructed to evacuate safely. The cyclone that hit the country has been named Usagi. Apart from this, another storm is expected within a week.

More than 24,000 residents of Cagayan province have been safely evacuated, according to official data. Among them are people who left the city during the previous typhoon. Their evacuation is ongoing.

Super Typhoon Usagi is locally known as Offel. It is expected to hit the province on Thursday afternoon.

Rueli Repsing, head of the Cagayan Disaster Relief Office, said the water level of the Cagayan River is expected to rise again due to Usagi’s rains. Meanwhile, central and southern parts are receiving moderate to heavy rains.

He said that the wind speed of 100 km is blowing in different areas of the province. Emergency supplies such as generators have been kept ready in case of power outages due to the typhoon.

Reuters reported that another storm called Man-E is approaching. It is forecast to hit the central Philippines by Saturday. All non-essential travel has been discouraged in the Central Provinces on Thursday, an adviser to the Transport Ministry said.

Note that an average of 20 tropical storms hit the Philippines every year. This resulted in heavy rains, severe cyclones and severe landslides in the country.

According to the National Disaster Management Agency, the main island of Luzon was hit by typhoons Trami and Kongre Luzon in October. At least 159 people were killed. Apart from this, 22 people are still missing.
