On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, the government of Saudi Arabia has announced a discount on fines for violating traffic laws. According to the announcement, 50 percent discount will be given for paying fines before April 18.
This decision was taken on the orders of Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman. It aims to encourage traffic violators to settle fines quickly.
The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Saudi Ministry of Finance and the Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority. Violators have been given 6 months to settle the fine.
They can choose to pay all fines at once or settle each fine separately, unless they commit a security-related offence.
However, Section 75 of the Traffic Act will be enforced again for any violation of the law after this discount period. As per Section 75, a 25 per cent reduction in fine is provided for a single violation of the Act.
However, it warns of possible imprisonment and legal action if the fine is not paid on time.
