Myanmar’s pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, ousted in a military coup, has been released from prison and placed under house arrest. Reuters reported this information in a report on Wednesday (April 17) citing the military government.

Junta spokesman Major General Zaw Min Tun told the media that the move was taken because the weather was extremely hot. But it’s not just for Aung San Suu Kyi… working to protect elderly prisoners from heatstroke who need special precautions.

The Myanmar Meteorological Department said the temperature in Naypyidaw was recorded at 39 degrees Celsius on Tuesday (April 16).

In 2021, the 78-year-old government of Suu Kyi was overthrown in a military coup. He has since been detained by the Myanmar Army. The Nobel laureate was sentenced to 27 years in prison for crimes ranging from treason and bribery to violating the Telecommunications Act.

However, Aung San Suu Kyi has denied all the allegations against her. Earlier in February this year, Suu Kyi’s son Kim Aris said that his mother (Aung San Suu Kyi) is being held in solitary confinement.
